Talk to Her-Marco Moments

Pedro Almodóvar's striking and gripping movie Talk to Her was the point that I somehow found a ground to describe the moments that suddenly pop up in daily life, which ignites very ethereal feelings inside. I dedicate this series to these precious experiences.

I watched Talk to Her last summer. One of the unique parts of the movie was highlighting the sentimental moments that Marco (Darío Grandinetti) experiences in a drama or music. Showing tears with such pleasure mixed probably with poignant feelings was not given as a vulnerable side of him; it was even introduced poetically. That was the part that I nodded and thought how beatifully they pictured and grabbed the audience's attention and interest to this very emotion. To read more about the film, please click here

Everybody is in a rush in modern times, people grumbling for being busy and crushed under the loaded schedules. We all somehow lose the meaning of values and deep things in time. In this case, some unique moments that we capture make our day. Sometimes, with a piece of music, a book quote, a touching sentence from a podcast or a friend's hug. Those feelings I talk about bridge the soul and the external world, which makes the view of the world so different from how it is in a routine. I hope you know this feeling.

Sometimes, when I first listen to some songs (like thisor moments shared with a significant and loved one :), life is beautiful. Sometimes, these feelings appear in an opera, classical music concert, or a song (e.g., Beach House is quite good at bewitching me in that sense). These ethereal effects of life can also occur through some touching movie moments. I can be obsessed with these pieces of art and repeatedly listen to that song or re-watch that scene again and again, even though the first-time effect remains pure magic, unlike any other following taste. I put effort into cultivating these feelings, not to forget that life could be similar to how I want to construct it.

Although these ethereal moments nourish the poetic soul I want to embrace, it is hardly rare in everyday life. I learned to live with no surprises, but many alarms :), because I like to keep myself productive with what I am doing right now, currently a Master's degreewhich is cognitively demanding. Besides, I want to breathe at the surface, as Leonard Cohen says, stop at the surface, the surface is fine.  Nevertheless, I appreciate that life is not going straight, but with curves of art and emotions. When I maintain a strictly tight schedule, such moments are healing, healing in feeling. Thus, I resist living this life with a solid hope for "Marco Moments", miracles, and surprises in the long run. This makes me feel a-l-i-v-e.

I want to finish with Micheal Ende's quote from The Neverending Story: "He had never been willing to believe that life had to be as grey and dull as people claimed. He heard them saying: 'Life is like that,' but he couldn’t agree. He never stopped believing in mysteries and miracles."
