Quote-3 Noam Chomsky/About Being Hopeful

It's been quite a long time, roughly 6 years since I encountered one of Noam Chomsky's quotes while watching Captain Fantastic :). Briefly, Noam Chomsky is a well-known linguist. He made priceless contributions to the related literature. Because it helped me a lot to change my perspective and cope with certain obstacles in my life while trying to move onward, this quote is special. It always encourages me to think that all is manageable somehow with the help of HOPE insistently. So here it is:

“If you assume that there is no hope, you guarantee that there will be no hope. If you assume that there is an instinct for freedom, that there are opportunities to change things, then there is a possibility that you can contribute to making a better world.” ⭐

In my humble opinion, besides patience and dedication, to making some “dreams come true” (I will create a series based on this in close future:)) hope is indispensable. It is even a must, actually.

While I was volunteering in a special school in Denmark to “contribute to making a better world” for children, I drew this as my footprint project (or fingerprint, as you see in the first pic :D) before I left since I think this is what we need to survive with a warm heart and bright eyes believing in tomorrows :).

Hope we all can find an inner source to make a difference very determinedly to make this world more liveable and better for ourselves, our loved ones and any creatures. 🌍

Speaking of North, I'd like to share a song from those places.

    P.S. Regarding the song lyrics, I can sail without wind but against the wind as well! ;)

P.P.S. ''A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.''

  1. This quote is pretty influential in the sense that it motivates one to openness to change. Yet, one thing about hope is it may make one get lost in its pursuit. That is, the distinction between wishful thinking and hope might get blurry. For that, I would like to share a book that is on my reading list: Hope without Optimism by Terry Eagleton. I have read other works of him but not this one. I am looking forward to reading this one as well.

    Also, here is a song from a band I can relate to their realistic yet hopeful music:

    1. Dear Onur, such an impressive quote it is. I do believe and think that that is what I do with my life and will continue to do so for the sake of hope "to make a better world", especially for children as you know!

  2. Dear Onur, first, thanks for the opportunity to think, evaluate and discuss a different perspective here, which is the enjoyable part of having a blog for me.
    There is no strict distinction between being wishful and hopeful. I do think that you must be aware of borders and may accept them to a certain extent, it is the nature of life. But what I want to highlight here while talking about being hopeful is to be able to give a chance for - at least - try, not pretending that everything will be all right bla bla, there is no such world. We can discuss this further via email or in the kitchen. Greetings!

    1. Hey Gökçe. The time has come! As of today, I am starting to read Hope without Optimism. I would like to share its epigraph with you: “We are not optimists; we do not present a lovely vision of the world which everyone is expected to fall in love with. We simply have, wherever we are, some small local task to do, on the side of justice, for the poor." (Herbert McCabe)

  3. Dear Gökçe, first things first, thank you for sharing this great quote along with your special feelings. "hope"; what a strong word. I believe it is stronger than what we think of this word. When there is hope, then there must be a way to get along, right? Luckily, I had to chance to read this when my soul was out of hope, and now, it is renewed.

    Quotes are speacial, but sharing your feelings on it is also special.
    Please keep sharing.

    As my dear friend Onur, I want to suggest a song that is full of hope;

  4. Very dear Elif, your comment reached me at right time, made my heart warm when I feel also a bit blue this very night. :) This is how life is. Sharing makes us closer to each other, I think, writing a blog is a very good tool to do so. I am truly happy I touched you and cultivate the land of hope somehow through this quote. The song, btw, was lovely, I liked it. Thanks for sharing. Warm greetings...
